- Thursday March 5th- We are able to gain access to the SVA Sculpture Building on 30 West 17th Street and begin training. We learned the rules for utilizing the space, signing out tools and the proper use of the machines (see uploaded images). In addition to testing the tools, we split up into 3 groups and we are tasked to construct a 14" x 14" wooden box.
- NOTE: Sculpture Building is closed on Fridays.
- In regards to the construction process for the Transformations exhibition on April 1st- we are currently coordinating our schedules to make ourselves available for building the pieces. The materials are being delivered to the Sculpture Building where we will then begin with cutting down the pieces necessary for the base and supports of the built structure.
- We need to print out the latest construction documents (2 copies- one for the studio and one for the sculpture building) as well as set up a construction schedule estimating how long each task will take and how many people will be needed.
- A small group of us went over to the new sculpture building on 335 West 16th Street as well as 134 West 21st Street (building right across from the studio) and we have agreed that the 134 Building is most suitable for us to work in. This building will assure easy transportation of the materials as it is located across the street from the West Side Gallery. When the time comes we will be transporting all materials from the Sculpture Building to 134 West 21st Street- trucking providing by SVA upon request. The freight is large enough to fit at least 2 pieces of 8'x4' so that is also a plus. We are working to get more light into the space. Also, please note we will sharing the space with 4 other interior design students as they build for the DIFFA event. They estimate needing a 15' x 15' space and will work around our schedules.
- Stephen and Andrew have consulted with Damon on the laptop usage and his advice would be to use a desktop considering the laptop will not last to stay on everyday risking the fact it would overheat. We would need to consider what we need to do to bring a data line for access to the net or even a possibility of using a wireless card- TBD.
- I am currently compiling all the senior thesis submissions and working on the text and graphics to be submitted for vinyl lettering. I need a list of all student names and professors in the show categorized from first year to third year. I will take care of the fourth year. Its my understanding that we are taping around the artwork on the wall- are we purchasing the colored tape or sending it out to be made as a vinyl?. Basically- I need a list from the 'selection group'. We should also have someone proof the list to assure that all names are spelled correctly and under the right year.
- As far as the senior submissions- we have 9 people who submitted work to be printed at 5 x 7 and made into booklets- this is great! I have some extra card stock from a previous project, so I am going to put together one booklet as an example and have the class review it before printing all 9 booklets.
We have several tasks to complete in the upcoming weeks so please make yourselves available and work hard!
