Good news: We absolutely floored Richard Brooks with our ideas. He described our designs for the gallery at 133 West 21st as a "Quantum leap forward" using the space in a way different than they've ever thought of before.
Bad news: Given that we are students building a free standing structure that will go into the space, he was a bit worried about insurance coverage and liability. Illya will meet with Richard and his superiors to discuss what can be done to accomplish our design.
Richard went through a list of things we should be aware of:
1. There is no insurance for the artwork that is being displayed.
2. We must be supervised when on a ladder!
3. We are given 3 days to install and 1 day to remove the installation.
4. SVA provides transportation for the artwork.
5. We have to make sure all our dvd's and projectors work before the installation opens.
6. We are undergraduates so there will be no alcohol at the opening! Bummer!
7. Exhibition coordinators will provide the hardware and vinyl lettering.
8. We need to send them low res images of our work ASAP so they can put our exhibition in the SVA website!

Materials for the arts:We have to make sure to arrive on time to our appointment and send them a thank you note so that we are on their "nice list". Setting a great reputation for SVA Design Build will be very important because this is a very good, FREE resource which will want to use for many years to come.
Tool training: In order to be authorized to operate the tools in the SVA Workshop we need to be trained to use the tools! The lovely Simone Clemente is working on getting us a date to go to the Sculpture department on 17th st and train. We will have to be split up into two groups because our group is too large to train at once. Simone should get back to us on the specific dates, which will hopefully be next week.
For next week: We all agreed on integrating some elements from the Canopy group into the Cube groups designs and the concept that as chosen for the invitation was Transformations.
1. Calculate materials needed in order to build. We need square footage needs as well as quantities according to the square feet.
2. Elevations that demostrate how the art work will lay out in the space.
