Week 3

Hi all DB classmates,
A recap of today's meeting:

1. Site Visit SVA Sculpture building conveniently located at 30 West 17th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenue. We met with Josh (one of the student from SVA studying Fine Arts) and had the opportunity to interact with his art works.
   
   
2. We all headed back to the West Building to present our concept for the West Side Gallery. Here is what I heard from each individual and feedback from Illya but please feel free to add comment if I miss anything. I do apologize!
   

• Jessie: Wanted other SVA students to see what we Interior Designers do. An idea to collage pictures with Plexiglases enclosing it as a floor treatment. "Nightmare Scene" integrated with AutoCAD interface.
• Larissa: A creative and interactive space. How a person stands, sits, or lean will change the viewer's view of the work. The idea to integrate a seating position to a standing to a leaning position all in one motif.
• Hayley: "A cube within a cube". Wanted to create a transparent / glowing cube to grab attention of viewers. First layer of process images to the inner circle with TV displaying final rendered images.
• Sarah: Creating a maze and "punching" holes into some walls so viewers know there is more art pieces. Partitions or panels could have different heights to give a less static idea. Curving walls would help circulation.
• Jimi: A space to mingle and just chill out. Free standing objects which forces viewers to become interactive with art piece. Need to solidify the concept and clarify what he wants to depict and/or show.
• Amelia: Creating atmosphere we are in control of. To show other non-Interior Design Department that we designed and built the space. Creating layers base on different types of transparencies: Translucent, Transparent, Opaque.
• Andrew: A fortress of solitude base on Superman's home. Want to create objects to be protruding out of the floors and walls. A stair to act as both getting to another space to obtain another view and setting.
• Caitlin: "Interior Design: Revealed". Experience the space first before seeing the project. Stickers on the floor to act as both information of projects and circulation. Free standing panels back lite on two ends of the wall. These panels can also be sliding.
• Ashely: IDEA 1: Space to be surrounded with different collages of our artwork. Some of these panels can act as information or TV screens. IDEA 2: A blown up version of a 2D Floor Plan with wooden frames of walls, door and window locations. The idea of showing raw materials, the skeleton of an interior space.
• Ambar: Multiple facets is like many phases interior designers have to go through. Different angles running both horizontal and vertical where work will be display.
  

Two classmates who were present today will have to present the following week on February 6th along with other classmates who were absent. We are also hoping that whoever was not able to come today will also have some type of presentation prepared.

For next week please having the following: CAD drawings to depict your concept and a way to understand the space better weather it is with elevations or 3D CAD and/or MAX.
